2006 is ending soon. It's time to bid farewell to the year that has passed. It's been a roller coaster ride. I've made new friends, as well as enemies.

But it's time to move on.

Ella and I watched this movie yesterday. It stars Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite, Benchwarmers) and Billy Bob Thornton.

It's funny, but not as hilarious as Jack Black or Adam Sandler movies. Oh, and speaking of Jack Black, Tenacious D (duo with Kyle Gass) is coming out with their first movie: The Pick of Destiny. I'm hoping it would be as hilarious as Nacho Libre ;)

If you like listening to music a lot, you should check out this site:

Last.FM

It's basically an internet radio site. But the bonus is that it has cool features that you can use. The songs are listed with tags, so you can search for keywords or specify an artist that you like, and it'll play songs similar to what you indicated. You can also create your own profile and share your music preferences with others. It's like Friendster for music lovers. The downside is that the volume of the songs are not leveled, so you'd have to adjust your speakers once in a while. Nevertheless, it's probably better than listening to Yahoo or MSN.

Getting rusty

Darn, I think I'm getting rusty at this blogging thing. It takes me a month to post new stuff. Oh well...

It was my birthday 2 months ago, hehehe. Ella and I (together with my mom, sis, and 2 aunts) went to Tagaytay to have lunch at FireLake Grill in Tagaytay. Here are some pics from my Fisheye camera:

Then last October 7, we went to the closing party of our LomoLove exhibit at Cubao-X. I met Fozzy, one of the new members of our group. It was funny because she happened to be Ella's batchmate in Miriam. What was more surprising was that her boyfriend was my batchmate in LSM. Small world eh? Here are more pics:

I've been deep into Dynasty mode with NBA Live 07. Out of probably 7 seasons, I've managed to win around 3 championships. I used the Fantasy Draft and got Tyson Chandler, Emeka Okafor, and Chris Paul as my star players. I managed to pick LeBron James during the first season but didn't manage to re-sign him after, hehehe. Recently, I've read some reviews that NBA 2K7 is better, so I might just try it out. And I think Smackdown Vs. Raw 2007 is also out, so I guess I'll be spending more time with my PS2 again ;)

In the past weeks, I've also managed to stack-up my music collection again. I was able to buy greatest hits albums of the following: 311, Everclear, Better than Ezra, Bon Jovi, Black Crowes, Counting Crows, Roxette, Offspring, Pantera, Lighthouse Family, The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Bond, Linkin Park, Barenaked Ladies, Boyz II Men, Alanis Morissete, Brand New Heavies, and the Prodigy. My iPod's happy again =)

World Wide Suicide

I've recently managed to buy some CDs at UM:

1. Pearl Jam (Pearl Jam)
2. Silence (Slapshock)
3. Continuum (John Mayer)
4. Every Man For Himself (Hoobastank)

Of the four albums, the ones draining my iPod are Pearl Jam and Silence. I'm eyeing to buy the latest album of The Dawn next. They've released a 20th Anniversary compilation of re-recorded (not remastered) hits with Buddy Zabala on bass. I'm not sure though how much it costs since it's a double CD set.

Oh, and I've also started playing NBA LIVE 07. Honestly speaking, the 06 version is much better. They've removed some of the camera views and changed some of the controls. The playing experience isn't as realistic as 06. But since I play Dynasty Mode, I don't really care much about these, hehehe.

Wow. It's been more than a month since I last wrote here. Perhaps I'm either just lazy, busy, or this blog thing just really isn't for me. Anyway, there have been a lot of things that have happened since my last post:

1. I passed my comprehensive exam.

2. I watched the following movies: Dead Man's Chest, Nacho Libre, Click, and Sukob.

3. I've only managed to fill up half of my iPod since I bought it last month.

4. Ella and I have chosen the designer who will make the dresses for our wedding next year.

5. I bought the following albums: Eraserheads (Ultraelectromagneticpop, Circus, Cutterpillow, Fruitcake), Wolfgang (Semenelin, Wurm, Serve in Silence, Acoustica), Razorback (Beggar's Moon, Star)

Ups and down

This past weekend has been a rollercoaster. I had a fever since Friday until yesterday, but still good things managed to happen:

1. I finally took the comprehensive exam for my graduate degree. It was freaking difficult!!! At least that's one less thing to worry about (except for the results, hehehe)

2. I watched Superman Returns last Sunday. Awesome! Although you have to admit, you wouldn't see much acting from Brandon Routh. But overall, amazing!

3. Ella and I have already booked our choir. You can check their site at 92adsingers.com and you can even listen to some samples.

4. I bought myself an iPod! Woohoo! It's only a 3rd generation model but it packs 40GB of music. Weee!

Oh well, the weekend could have been perfect if not for that damn fever.

Lovin' those summer movies

May and June are my favorite months for movies. Why? Because these are the months where all the blockbusters come out in the US. So far, I've been able to watch 3 of the best movies this season.

Mission: Impossible 3 was good. Your eardrums would burst with all the explosions in the movie. There were really a lot of action scenes. And I must say, Philip Seymour Hoffman's character would be one of the best villains I've ever watched.

The Da Vinci Code was also good, probably the same as M:I3. I just don't see how the movie would ever shake someone's faith. The message was clear: what matters is what you believe in.

X-Men: The Last Stand has so far been the best I've watched. The story was deeper and the action sequences are much entertaining. It's just sad that some of the characters didn't have major roles in the movie. But overall, this is the best movie so far this summer.

Grey's Anatomy

I've managed to watch some of the early episodes of the first season. I must say, this series is really good. It's like Doogie Howser, Sex & the City, and Friends all mixed together. They've effectively managed to mix drama and comedy in the episodes, which is quite hard. Plus of course, they have Katherine Heigl ;)

Friends

Okay, I know this show is over. But I've managed to buy Seasons 1-6 on DVD. Woohoo! I've managed to watch midway of Season 3. Once I finish the 6th, I'll purchase the last 4. This is one of the best TV shows of the 90's (aside from The Simpsons and Seinfeld). I'm sure this isn't the last time I'll be watching the episodes =)

Buon Giorno!

Yes, it means "Good Day" in Italian. But now the name "Buon Giorno" equates to a new restaurant in Tagaytay. We went here during our 2nd anniversary for lunch. I found out about the place while trying to search for a nice restaurant to eat at Tagaytay (Thanks to Ruby for the info on her blog). You can actually find lots of good places at Tagaytay (Sonya's Garden, Antonio's, Gourmet Cafe, etc.). Buon Giorno is along the main highway going to Batangas. It's right inside the "Cliff House" compound after Starbucks and Yellow Cab.

As with other famous restaurants in Tagaytay, it's better if you make reservations (c/o Helen, 09155051884). I made one a week before we went there. I guess we were the first couple to make a reservation for Sunday, since they seated us at the Opium Bed (it's somewhat their version of a lover's seat). It's the most sought after seat in the restaurant because it gives you a great view of the lake.

The food? Excellent! We ordered their toast platter with 3 kinds of dips for appetizer. For the main course, I ordered the shrimp pasta while my fiancee ordered spinach raviolli (the food sounds tastier when you hear it's Italian name, I just couldn't remember it, hehehe). We also both got ourselves their iced tea placed in a mug that's around 8 inches tall. All these for P1,000? It was well worth it!!! You gotta try eating here. (To my barkada, I suggest we just have a Tagaytay trip for our outing).

Anyway, when I visit the place again, I promised myself to try their steaks ;)

That trip was one hell of a vacation. All we did was eat, eat, eat, sleep, walk, and bathe in the sun. It was the best vacation I've ever had in my entire life. Boracay rocks! Well, as one track in the Cafe del Mar Volume 10 album says: "Ang Boracay ang pinakamagandang isla sa buong mundo"

Seasons Of Love

It's been a while since I last watched a movie on the big screen. There aren't much good movies out the past months. Since there weren't much to do last Friday, my baby and I decided to watch Rent. Fortunately it was still shown at Greenbelt 3. I'm not much of a fan of musicals but Rent would definitely be in my list of exemptions. I really liked the performances. But since I haven't watched it yet on stage, it's hard to say which was better.

Lazy with PS2

I'm already tired playing Smackdown vs. Raw on PS2. I'm also done with Fight Night Round 3. NCAA March Madness is starting to get boring. It's probably because of the long Lenten vacation. I had nothing to do in the house but play, aside from eating and watching TV alternately. Sheesh.

"Dr. Pabiton launches radio program"

The embattled Dr. Carmelita Pabiton, dean of Student Affairs, is planning to launch Verbal Sensations, a radio program that announcers her daily plans for the Student Personnel Services (SPS) this coming April 2006. She grabbed the opportunity to use Green Giant, the radio station established by Electronics and Communications Engineering Society.

Dr. Pabiton is not used to writing written proposals whenever she raises concerns or implements program for the SPS. In fact, it took Dr. Pabiton to write her proposal and minutes of the meeting for two months.

The LaSallian found that the idea came from Dr. Carmelita Quebengco, DLSU executive vice president. SPS directors believe that all the decisions of Dr. Pabiton just came from Dr. Quebengco. However, Dr. Quebengco is quick to point that the statement is just an assumption. "Don't feed words in my mouth," Dr. Q said.

It maybe recalled that student leaders and employees questioned the quick decision of directors to merge SPS offices. The issue even led to a disciplinary complaint filed by Dr. Pabiton against Student Council President Army Padilla. But the case was immediately resolved in a closed door meeting.

Meanwhile, Dr. Pabiton also faced a grievance case filed by Benedict Tinawin for suspending his tenure as the dean's exclusive student consultant. The Student Council, on the other hand, already released a manifesto concerning the dean's "mismanagement" of the situation.

"I am really excited with my new program. Sabi nila kasi puro verbal decisions daw ang ginagawa ko. Totoo naman, diba Fritchie. Kaya mas magandang solusyon na sabihin ko nalang."

As not to defeat the process of making verbal decisions, Dr. Pabiton will not read any script of document during her air time. "Word of mouth nalang ang gagawin. Kasi kung babasahin ko pa yung script, baka sabihin na nakadocument ang mga decisions. Masusulat pa yan sa The LaSallian. Ayoko kasing bulok na bulok ang nababasa sa mga diyaryo. Diba, Paul."

Bon Voyage

Last Sunday, my Fil-Japanes nephew (to my cousin) left for Japan to study high school. It was just depressing to see people crying, specially my mom. He's been here with us since his first schooling and my mom was the one taking care of his studies. She'd always stay up late during their final exams trying to teach my lazy hard-headed nephew. When he was a little kid, I'd always get irritated with him because he was always giving my mom a hard time. But in the past few years, I've seen him grown up and I've learned to understand his age. I've been through that stage as well.

But as with other things, life changes. The house is quieter. My mom has more free time for herself. And I have the PS2 all for myself now, hahaha =P

A series of unfortunate events

Nobody could have been unluckier than Jenson Button. During the Australian F1 Grand Prix, he started on Pole Position. But a series of most unfortunate events happened:

1. After the first Safety Car went out, he was overtaken by Fernando Alonso
2. After the second Safety Car, he was overtaken by Kimi Raikkonen
3. After his first pit stop, he was overtaken by Juan Pablo Montoya
4. During the next series of Safety Cars and pit stops, he was overtaken by Ralf Schumacher and Nick Heidfeld
5. On the last two corners of the last lap, his engine blew.

From Pole Position to 10th place. Sheesh. Looks like Renault's becoming the next Ferrari. I just hope the season's not going to be boring as two years ago.

Just friends

My fiancee and I bummed around their house last week. We watched "Just Friends" on DVD. It starred Ryan Reynolds, Amy Smart, and Chris Klein. She was sooo bored with the movie and didn't quite appreciate the humor. A few days after that, she told me that two of her male officemates liked the movie and found it funny, but her other female colleague had the same opinion as hers. Perhaps it's a movie only men would appreciate. The story's very predictable, but I find Reynolds' antics very funny. Probably it's because I grew up watching Tito, Vic, and Joey ;)

PS2 stuff

I was able to buy a copy of Fight Night Round 3 earlier this month and I've managed to play around 15-20 fights in Career Mode already. Here are my comments:

1. The controls are better and the opponent AI is more realistic.
2. The graphics suck. Pacquaio looks the same but Morales and Barrera looks entirely different.
3. Where did all the boxers go? I think there are only 5 boxers in Featherweight division. I guess those ugly Americans only care about the heavyweights.
4. You can't customize the entrance details of your boxer. In the last version, you get to choose your boxer's entrance song, entourage, and special effects. In this version, all of these are gone.

Overall, the game's OK. You really have to strategize your fight instead of just throwing punches. You really have to be patient and win rounds instead of trying to knock out your opponent. I'd probably give it a rating of 3.5 out of 5.

When I get bored playing this, I turn to NCAA March Madness 06 =)

New stuff

Here's a list of some of the albums I've been able to listen to the past couple of weeks. I couldn't write complete reviews of each so I'll just make short comments:

1. Chicago (The Complete Greatest Hits) - Hey, who wouldn't know Chicago songs? Some of their songs are anthems of hopeless romantics, hehehe. Nice easy listening album.

2. Elvis Presley (ELV1S) - It's a compilation of Elvis' chart-toppers. Another nice album to listen to if you're tired of all the pop songs playing over the radio.

3. Groove Armada (The Best Of) - Groove Armada's probably one of those artists who could create really funky beats, and to compile their hits in one album is simply awesome!

4. Ministry of Sound (The Annual 2006) - Another great compilation, but not all the tracks are dance-able.

5. Sandwich (Five On The Floor) - An OK album, but not great. I can't feel much variety in the songs. I'd probably listen to the tracks one at a time, instead of listening through the entire album.

6. Stevie Wonder (Song Review) - Great compilation! Excellent tracks. Unfortunately, Overjoyed isn't included.

I actually listen to a lot of new albums every week, and I've almost filled up my hard disk =)

Summer time!!!

How do I know it's summer?

1. When I have to turn on the aircon in my room because I couldn't stand the freaking heat!
2. When student orgs are no longer allowed to have their activities, which leaves me doing nothing in the office except for writing in my blog.
3. When I hear news that we'll be going to Boracay!!!! wahoo!!!!

Yes, I'm going to Boracay, for the first time!!! Finally, I'll be able to splurge on film again. It's been a while since I've used the creative juices in my brain. Hopefully there'd be a lot of nice subjects there ;)

Last weekend, the Formula 1 Season officially started, and what a start it was! I'd have to say the new qualifying format is cool. It brought back the entertainment value to the qualifying sessions with the knock-out format. Too bad the McLaren mechanics did a lousy job with Kimi's rear wing. But hey, who'd expect someone to start last and finish 3rd?

More interesting than the qualifying was, of course, the race itself. My goodness, Alonso, Schumacher, and Raikkonen on the podium? Probably a sign of things to come for this season. But don't count out Honda. Button just had the wrong kind of luck when he got slowed down in the pit drive, but I'm sure they'll be able to bounce back in the next races and make the entire season much more interesting.

It's F1 Season once again, and the first race starts this Sunday at Bahrain. The new McLaren design is awesome! I just hope the car remains reliable all through out the entire season. I'm hoping this will be the season for the team.

La-la-la-life is wonderful

I finally managed to have a copy of Jason Mraz's latest album, Mr. A-Z. My first impression was that it wasn't as good as his first album, but I guess if you listen more to the entire album, the songs slowly grow into you. Personally, my favorites are Life is Wonderful, Wordplay, Geek in the Pink, Clockwatching, and O.Lover.

It's a good buy for a CD, and of course it becomes a better buy if you get it from me ü

I'm loving my new camera

As you know, I sold my beloved LC-A and bought a Smena 8M. It took quite a while since I was able to test-run the new (yet old) camera, but finally got to use it during our outreach activity in the office last month. I really had no idea how I'd be able to use it, since everything was manual (aperture, shutter speed, and focusing!). The hardest part was guesstimating the focusing distance since the focusing wasn't through-the-lens. Anyway, I was so suprised to see how sharp the pictures came out!!! I'm so loving my new camera and can't wait to use it with the colorsplash ü

Superb Smoothies!

Have you tried the smoothies at Fuzion Cafe? They're simply awesome! According to them, they don't put any ice or sugar in the smoothies, so all you get is the natural taste of the fruits. The first one I tried was the Flamango which was made with bananas (my favorite), mangos, and peaches, and the first sip was heavenly! I really have to try all of the varieties in the future.

They also serve meals and other drinks such as coffee as well. However, don't try asking for bottled water because they surely don't have that, hehehe. I'm not sure where they have their branches but I'm sure there's one at Greenbelt 3 and Greenhills.

McLaren reveals new livery

Have you seen the new design of the McLaren F1 car? It's awesome! I think it's the first time that an F1 car would have a reflective surface. I'm wondering how it will affect their opponents' vision when they get blinded by the sun's reflections, hehehe.

1. You start to see names of politicians (or their initials, whether in office or not) in placards posted around the Metro without any relevance whatsoever.
2. Your barangay starts to bright up because of the "lighting project" of your congressman.
3. Traffic starts to build up again because of all the roads being repaired unnecessarily.
4. They start to appear on TV more.

My goodness, thanks to Glennda, I got to see again our beloved forum way back in college, SCHWOI. For those of you who don't know what "schwoi" is, well, it's an expression basically, sort of a local version of Wayne's World's "shwing!" hehehe.

Anyway, it was fun to see the old posts again. It was fun trying to guess who were behind the codenames and more fun to reminisce what we used to do back then. Well, I guess there's only one way to satisfy this nostalgia: revive SCHWOI!!!

I've been hearing this new song of Sugababes over the radio recently, and the chorus seemed to have struck a good message:

"People are all the same
And we only get judged by what we do"

With the things I've been experiencing at work lately, I can't help but agree to the lines. You can't really say that you know a person unless you've seen the way they act or make decisions. That would only be the time when you would see their real personalities. That would only be the time when you'll see who are the people who have integrity and those who would rather settle for a harmonious but untruthful and shallow relationship. To those who chose to settle for the latter, good luck on your future lives. I don't think I can stand working with people like you. I made my decision and I will stand firm on that path I chose to take.

What do you think of Narnia?

I finally was able to watch Narnia yesterday, and these were the things I liked:

1. Tilda Swinton - the queen of dark characters (from Angel Gabriel to Jadis)
2. War scene - I'm a sucker for this (Braveheart, Last Samurai, etc.)
3. The CGI - simply awesome
4. Of course, the story

On the other hand:

1. I hoped the four main characters looked better as adults (specially Peter)
2. I hoped they didn't make Lucy and Mr. Tumnus toooooo close to each other. It was short of making a love story between them.

Overall, the movie was GREAT. I do hope they make the other books into movies too.

Hidden treasure in the city

You won't believe it, but there's actually an awesome place right in the middle of nowhere. Well, Guadalupe to be specific. It's a church called Nuestra Señora de Gracia and it's located within the residential area of Guadalupe Viejo (the side where Rockwell is). The structure is old but very very beautiful. It was love at first sight for me ü

It's quite easy to go there. Along J.P. Rizal, just make a turn at Bernardino St., then go straight ahead and you'll come across the church at your left side. If you plan to get married some day, I'd recommend having it here ;)

Went out with the LPEP98 people last Dec. 17 and 28 (whew! too much partying going on around, hehehe). It was nice to see some balikbayan friends again and catch up on each other's lives.

Crazy over FIFA

Yup, FIFA06 is currently the game I've been playing on PS2. I've never been any good at playing actual football so I'm fulfilling my frustrations in the game, hehehe. I'm currently on Manager Mode with Newcastle United FC as my team. I've managed to buy Michael Owen and David Beckham from Real Madrid without hassle.

This game is really awesome. My NBA LIVE 06 is already dusting in my room, hehehe.

Waaaaaaaaah!!!! Have you heard the news? Fernando Alonso is going to McLaren in 2007!!! If you're a McLaren Fan, you're probably already doing backflips celebrating the news. Too bad if you're a Renault fan, hahahaha.

Well, it might be a bigger news if Kimi decides to transfer to another team for that year (Ferrari perhaps?) As long as there wouldn't be any team orders for them (as with Ferrari), it would be a great year for McLaren! Woohoo!!!

Partying with the gang

Dec. 17 was another party day for me. This time, it was with my college barkada. The usual gang was there with some special guests (Glennda, that's you, hahaha). I finally made the big announcement to them already (what announcement? I'll post it later, hehehe).

Blessing in disguise

The Amazing Race Family Edition is over, and the Linz Family came out as the winners. I was cheering for the Bransen Family but I guess a Buick and perpetual supply of gasoline is enough prize for them.

The Linz Family never received any special prize during the race since they never got to finish first in any of the legs. I was actually telling my girlfriend that it could be a blessing in disguise. Since they never finished first, it could be that they'll be the one to win the grand prize. And they did, hahaha.

I'm so happy the Weavers didn't win, hahahahaha!

Last Saturday was pig out day again for me and my girlfriend. At home, my sister was celebrating her birthday so we ate early dinner. We were only supposed to eat light but eventually got to eat almost a full meal.

After that, we went to my girlfriend's high school barkada's Christmas party where, again, we almost ate another full meal. Wooh! December's really pig out season with all the parties happening.

P.S. Saturday was really fun specially when I saw how girls react to big announcements, hehehe.

I finally got the chance to get a copy of this tribute album. I've been listening to it since Saturday, and here are my comments:

General:
1. Packaging is good, except for the case which is kinda "preggy" according to Targrod, hehehe
2. They could have chosen better artists to perform some of the songs.
3. I was hoping they'd include Sembreak, Minsan, and Toyang.

"Woohoo!" tracks (the ones I'd listen to over and over):
1. Spoliarium by Imago - perhaps the only female vocalist who can really sing an E-heads song
2. Tikman by Sugarfree - they were really able to perform the track with their unique style
3. Superproxy2K6 by Francis M. - it has a more rock-ish oomph to it compared to the original version
4. Alcohol by Radioactive Sago Project - the band kicks ass! the funk/jazz rendition is awesome!
5. Maling Akala by Brownman Revival - need I explain more? you've heard the song already
6. Ang Huling El Bimbo by Rico J. Puno - the legend! who'd expect Rico to be in this album? you can just imagine him singing "naninigas ang aking..." ;)

"Uhm" tracks (tolerable tracks):
1. Alapaap by 6 Cycle Mind - the intro sounds like Hale's Kahit Pa
2. Magasin by Paolo Santos - my girlfriend said it sounded like the original one, nothing different I guess
3. Huwag Kang Matakot by Orange & Lemons - I could have liked O&L if not for their PBB song, but I guess I liked their guitar sampling of Julie Tearjerky and Tikman in the end part of the song.
4. Pare Ko by Spongecola - unlike in the E-heads Greatest Hits album, they performed the cooler version of the song (the one with "t***ina" and "nabu***at"), although Spongecola's vocalist sings weird. It's like a foreigner trying to sing a Tagalog song. Or probably he's just too coño to sing a kalye song.
5. Huwag Mo Nang Itanong by MYMP - it's the track that you wouldn't really love but wouldn't hate either
6. Para Sa Masa by the artists in the album - same comment as no. 5

"Eck" tracks (tracks I'd rather skip):
1. With A Smile by South Border - man oh man, never make an R&B group to sing an E-heads song, period!
2. Overdrive by Barbie Almalbis - it sounds pop-ish
3. Ligaya by Kitchie Nadal - the effect they placed on Kitchie's voice just sucks, plus the fact that she failed to give justice to the message of the song.
4. Torpedo by Isha - who's Isha? Why would a female artist perform a song like this? It's meant to be sung by guys! Oh, and the sound of the old piano/accordion really sucks.
5. Hard To Believe by Cueshe - there's just nothing special about the song and the band, so I'm still wondering why they included it in the album

Overally, the album's still worth buying if you're an E-heads fan. Just love the songs and don't mind the performers. You'd also have to give credit to the producers of the album. I wish the Eraserheads would come up with a reunion concert. My rating for this album is 3.5 out of 5.

Yeo no longer the man

Joseph Yeo should be banned from entering the PBA Draft. It serves him right. I am a DLSU alumnus but I would have to say his clothesline hack on Villanueva shows his lack of maturity.

If a mere knudge from Villanueva's elbow would prompt him to do such act, then he's really not prepared for pro basketball. Heck, physical play is common in the pro leagues. If he can't even take an elbow from his opponents, he really can't survive the league.

Kudos to Fonacier for one hell of a shooting game. He overshadowed Ritualo big time.

Unsung heroes

Yeah yeah. The post is kinda late already, but I just want to congratulate all the Pinoy athletes who took part in the SEA Games. Once again, we have proven that Filipinos can win.

More than the athletes, I'd like to congratulate all the people behind the games. As written in one newspaper article, we should also give credit to the unsung heroes of the event. We should congratulate the drivers who brought the athletes to their venues on time, the security forces who ensured the safety of our guests, the organizers who worked 24/7 to make the event successfull. Of course, the highest congratulations to our student Liaison Officers who made sure that all the concerns of our guests are taken care of and that they felt welcome in our country.

Exception goes to the inefficient organizers, of course. Don't you just hate it when someone tells you "IT'S NOT MY JOB"?

Anyway, now that the games are over, everybody's turned their attention to Garci. Good luck GMA.

Sore losers

Whoever is insisting that the Philippines is cheating in the South East Asian Games, all I can say to you is that you're a sore loser!!!!!

Sheesh! If you're in your right mind, you'll know it would be near impossible to cheat in such type of international event.

Perhaps you're just trying to save your ass for not being able to achieve your supposed 100++ gold medals. Or probably it's really hard for you to admit that OUR athletes are waaaaaay better than yours.

And for those Filipinos who actually believe that we are indeed cheating, get the hell out of this country!!!! You don't deserve to be called a Filipino.

I've been busy the past few days to write in my blog. I've been volunteering together with some people from school for the 23rd SEA Games.

It's really good news that our country's leading in the medal race. I'm sure all Filipinos are wearing a smile on their faces everytime they hear news of our athletes winning.

So far, the experience has been great overall. Of course, we still encounter glitches in the system once in a while (or rather, most of the time ü). It's rewarding to see the joy in the faces of the students when they tell us their experiences of the event.

As for me, I'm just glad I was here in DLSU when it happened.

Big (?) Mac

I dunno if you've tried eating a Big Mac lately, but I've noticed it's gotten smaller. It's been a while since I last ate one (as you can see, I usually go with the Double Cheeseburger), but I remember having to flatten the burger to make it easier to eat. But now it seems I don't need to anymore, and I can even hold it with one hand.

I guess it should just be called "The Mac". Either that, or my mouth and hands grew bigger.

The start of my Narnia adventure

I recently bought the Chronicles of Narnia out of curiousity of what the story is about. There's an edition that contains all 7 titles in Powerbooks for P895. I've managed to finish the first title (The Magician's Nephew) in a week's time, although it could be read in less time with only 15 chapters with only around 5-6 pages each. The Magician's Nephew was actually written about 5 years after "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" but C.S. Lewis preferred that it be read first. Apparently, it's a prequel (the same way as in "The Hobbit" with "Lord of the Rings").

The book is a very light read. I'd probably say that it is more a "children's book" than Harry Potter (hey, don't get me wrong, I'm an avid HP fan myself). But I guess considering the time the two authors lived (Lewis and Rowling), there would most probably be a gap between their writing styles. Although I think Lewis' style has more "fantasy" and "imagination". You'd be surprised how a cabby can become the King of Narnia.

If you're a Harry Potter fan, I'm sure you've managed to read first 6 books already. I guess it's about time you go back in time and discover Narnia.

Note: This writeup is only based on the first book. It might change (or not) after I read the entire collection.

Rave: The band made a good concept of having the UP side (disc 1) and the DOWN side (disc 2). That means you can choose which disc to play depending on your mood. The UP side contains all the jumpy tracks you've headbanged along to such as Even Flow, Jeremy, and Animal. On the other hand, if you're feeling the opposite, just pop the DOWN side on your player and you'll hear Daughter, Better Man, and Last Kiss.

Rant: The packaging! I never liked cardboard for CD's. My discs even almost had scratches because of the adhesive inside the sleeves.

Judgement: Overall, the album's one of the best I've had. It is definitely a must on your collection if you're a rock fan. 5 out of 5 stars.
